The Northern dialect of Talyshi is spoken in the far southeast of Azerbaijan and across the border in the Ardabil and Gilan provinces of northwestern Iran. It is not mutually intelligible with the other Talyshi dialects, spoken further south along the Caspian littoral. The folk tales treated here, compiled by Әboszodә (2004) from several oral and written sources in Azerbaijan, have been transliterated, glossed and translated by S. Kaye.
